Portland Museum of Art: Intercultural Community Center

Continuing to think about studio habits and how they embody the teacher standards, my time with students from the Intercultural Community Center came to mind. The MAT program invited 5th graders from the ICC to participate in a museum activity with us. The activity I created for my Portland Museum of Art experience was something near and dear to my heart--I only recently saw my first Claude Monet painting in 2023, but it was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. When I learned the PMA had a couple of his paintings, I immediately wanted to do an activity with them.

Because of how painterly Monet's paintings can be, I wanted to engage the students in some Studio Habits than can come up simply from looking at a painting, such as Envision, Observe and Understanding Art Worlds

The pictures below will show a variety of 5th grade students participating in my activity, Your Impression, which involved observing a Claude Monet Painting on display.
